Tarpine, Heller & Pendergrass, LLC is a boutique workers’ compensation, insurance defense, and employers’ liability law firm founded in 2021 by Joseph C. Tarpine, III, Jason A. Heller, and Meredith L. Pendergrass.

Workers’ Compensation

At Tarpine, Heller & Pendergrass, we collaborate with employers, insurers, and third-party administrators to aggressively and proactively defend workers’ compensation claims. 

Our attorneys are experienced in representing clients before the Maryland Workers’ Compensation Commission, handling jury trial appeals before various Maryland circuit courts, and arguing before the Maryland Court of Special Appeals and Maryland Court of Appeals. In addition, we are licensed and prepared to advocate on behalf of our clients before the Washington, D.C. Office of Workers’ Compensation, Administrative Hearings Division, Compensation Review Board, District of Columbia Court of Appeals, and the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission.


Employers’ Liability

While uncommon, employers and insurers must be prepared to defend against employers’ liability claims. These involve claims filed by employees against their employer for accidents that occur at work. While typically these are barred in Maryland due to workers’ compensation serving as the exclusive remedy, exceptions apply. The attorneys at Tarpine, Heller & Pendergrass are well-versed in the employers’ liability exceptions and are available to protect the interests of employers and their insurers.
